So I know this is a bit out of the topic but I think with everything going on right now, I feel like I need to speak about it.
Last Friday, December 14th, 26 lives were taken in Newtown, Connecticut. The worse breaking news was that 20 of them where children with the average age of 6-7 years old L. The gunman went in the school and shot them multiple times. They were all innocent that were victims of someone who was not well.
Now the issue is raised to guns. Our President, Barack Obama, I would consider is the biggest anti-gun Democrat. Let’s not forget the Democratic Party is very anti-guns. So there is major debate about our second amendment, our forefathers gave us the right bear arms.
I would like to think that the more gun laws that are given, the more there will be issues and crimes. Let’s look at the South, they have guns and are free with them. Shockingly, there are less gun related crimes compared to up North where there are many anti-guns places. Or even Canada, there is less gun laws and coincidentally, there are less crimes.
Why is that? It’s psychology (this is the part where a bit of college education comes in) that when we are told we cannot have something, we all of a sudden have a desire for it. Like the show How I Met Your Mother, the lobster-affect. That is when one character, Robin, will want something right after she medically and physically cannot have it.
As much as everyone is fighting about the gun issues, I think we should reflect that there were 26 lives taken in the school. Guns may have partook in the event but I do not think it was the main problem. Actor Samuel L. Jackson said “I don't think it's about more gun control. I grew up in the South with guns everywhere and we never shot anyone. This [shooting] is about people who aren't taught the value of life … I don’t think movies or video games have anything to do with it. We need to stop deranged people from getting access to guns.”
I think he spoke the truth in this issue. Well we will see how this plays out. Until then, please keep of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary in your prayers.
Ciao, XOXO
Daphne
